Artistic Statement
Entangled is a desire to understand the beautifully complex experience of living in a female body in present society. Playing with strength, fragility, sensuality, and exploration, this piece longs to showcase the vast range of experiences of those born into female bodies. It sees how far we have come, but does not shy away from the weight of all the progress we have yet to achieve. While we may feel isolation within our hardships, there is a great potential for unity within this struggle. This piece seeks to highlight intersectionality and the need for a variety of viewpoints in order to best support each other. Seeing others for how they truly are and finding a sense of connection, even in the hardest times, is in the end how we will progress past expectations and shatter glass ceilings in an empowered and celebratory way. This piece is dedicated to my late mother and grandmother, who set examples for me of women that were not afraid to let their voices be heard and who used this power to uplift others along the way.

Grandiose
Created in the fall of 2022, Grandiose is Avery Conrad's choreographic debut. With music by Teddy Hyde, this work plays with expectations and seeks to make audiences think differently about how serious we tend to take our art. Grandiose premiered at the George Rowland Wright Performance Space as a part of Point Park University's Fall Student Choreography Project.

Artistic Statement
Inspired by great dramatic works, Grandiose is a piece that desires to explore our artistic intentions and ideations. Drawing on theatricality, whimsicality, and satire, this work searches for reflection on our decisions and their consequences. Going beyond the boundaries of contemporary genres, it desires to discover something larger than the movement itself. Motivated by our need to be intrigued and impacted by one's vast individuality, we find moments of isolation within synchronicity. May this piece give you the voyeurism you seek and the courage to come to your own conclusion on its true meaning.
